Shane Lowry A Golfing Giant in the Making

Shane Lowry has moved to 60th in the world rankings. Nudging above Irish Legend Padraic Harrington, the only fellow Irishmen ahead of him now are Grahame McDowell (24th)  and of course world No.1 Rory Mcilroy.  One of only a handful of players to win both as an amateur (Irish Open in 2009) and as a professional (Portuguese Masters in 2012) Lowry's future looks bright.

He showed early promise in a stellar amateur career and this included his first major win - the Leinster Boys Championship in 2005, pictured here, which was played in Skerries Golf Club during the clubs centenary year.  Came across these photos recently after a member reminded he was handed the trophy on the 18th green! With Shane are Barry Doyle President of the GUI and yours truly on the right. First gentleman's name escapes me but was the sponsor of the event. Look forward to seeing Shane lift his first Major and join the ever increasing number of Irish major winners! Maybe 2013?

In photo above Shane makes his acceptance speech in the clubhouse. A very pleasant quiet guy is my memory.
