Image of the day: Conor Ledwith's tribute to Dark Sky Week

So apparently this week is International Dark Sky Week. I had never heard about it before but it is something Irish photographer Conor Ledwith is deeply passionate about.

He explains why on his Facebook page and includes this fantastic photo, which is our image of the day:

He says:

'So few people in the developed world who live in and around the cities and towns get to see skies like this which is a shame. On nights like these you can watch the sky for hours with complete fascination. So with a little education and thoughtfulness people will become aware of the skies above and can do their little bit to help bring back the night sky.'
