Visit to the European Space Expo at Trinity College Dublin

Having previously visited 12 other countries, the European Space Expo has finally opened in Dublin, located in the Front Square of Trinity College. The European Commission and the European Space Agency have worked in conjunction together to organise the event which will stay in Dublin for five days.

Upon walking into the white, semi-spherical shaped structure you enter a dark room with thirteen interactive screens spaced around the room, along with an information desk, as well as a free coffee machine! Each touch screen addresses different issues connected to our lives, which may be solved by various space activities and applications.

With scheduled live speakers on a daily basis informing visitors about future plans, the public can fully interact and gain full insight into the exhibition. There is a team of helpful mediators dotted around the Expo in blue t-shirts to navigate and answer any questions.

At one o’clock every afternoon, Sun@One is hosted, where, using a remote control, you can control a telescope over the Canary Islands and take pictures of the sun.

The expo is open from the 4 - 9 of June and is open from 10am - 6pm. It's free of charge and well worth dropping into! Information is available at www.SpaceExpo.ie

WorldIrish caught up with Dr Deirdre Coffey who is a Lecturer of Astronomy and Space Science at UCD School of Physics. You can hear her interview below.
