Image of the day: Leenaun, Co Galway

This spectacular image was shot by Damien Stenson in early December. It shows the town Leenaun, along the shores of Killary Harbour in Co Galway.

Damien describes on his Facebook page how he captured the shot:

After 8 consecutive exposures that 'something' arrived in the form of a car which can be seen running to whole length of the left hand side from the town and into the mountains. You can see the break lights as red patches moving along the road towards the center of the image.

Above left is the milky way which is what I was out shooting initially but I was lucky enough to capture a shooting star in the image which was part of the Perseids last August when I took this picture.

The mountains were illuminated by the moon which was just creeping above the mountains from behind me. A few minutes after this all the mountains were a bit brighter but I liked the look of this darker capture.
