The Arthur Guinness Projects - Championing the talent and creativity of Ireland.

The Arthur Guinness Projects exist to celebrate and reward the next chapter of Irish talent and creativity. They look for extraordinary people with innovative, inspiring, brilliant ideas, and the passion and drive to make them happen. So if you have a potential project in Music, Sport, Arts or Food that would benefit from financial and practical assistance, this is your chance to bring it to life.

Simply submit your idea here, and you could be awarded a bursary of up to €50,000, after being judged by the various judges fro each category. You will also obtain invaluable advice and mentoring to help you turn your dream into reality. The most popular ideas will be shortlisted by the public, so make sure to encourage your friends and family to vote by sharing your project on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc.

The video below will give you an idea of what it's all about:

I've found the whole project really interesting so have complied what I think are some of the best on the website!

  • The Magical Box of Strings Tour

The Magical Box of Strings Tour aims to prove that music is one universal creative language. The project owner, Glenn Dunne wishes to spread his story across Ireland and the world and the Arthur Guiness Project could be what helps him to do this.

Find out more about this project and help Glenn by voting here.

  • Foodcloud

Ireland is the fifth worst offender in Europe for wasting good food. 2014 is the European Year Against Food Waste and Foodcloud has the technology to move Ireland to the top of the class.

Foodcloud's solution is to to make the process of redistributing food—from those who have too much to those who have too little—much easier.

This will be done using Foodcloud's app, or through a website, businesses who have registered with Foodcloud, can upload details of their surplus food and the time period in which the food can be collected. The app then automatically sends a text message to the nearest community organisation in that area. If they accept the offer, the community group collects it directly from the business. If they reject the offer (not every food type suits every organisation), the offer is then sent to the next nearest organisation and so on.

  • Insight Ireland

Ireland has a rich and diverse cultural heritage at multiple levels. From sport, arts, music, food, industry and history the island can be proud of its roots and what it has achieved. However the 'Ireland Brand' and 'Irish Stereotype' often revolve around a number of aspects -  with younger generations and tourists often unaware of the depth of 'True Ireland' outside of these aspects/ preconceptions.

Inisight Ireland wish to emphasize Irish cultural aspects of the past present and the future by using the Trinity Science Gallery to immerse visitors in Irish culture and world through dynamic displays, workshops/ experiences and active visitor participation.

Set up UCD Student Peter O'Neill, he wants  'Insight Ireland' to complement, support  and promote the existing tourism network rather than compete against it. The target market will be Irish students, Irish businesses, conference attendees and the 6.2 million tourists who visit Ireland each year.

  • Grass Roots to Sports Stars

As we all know, Ireland is a country that has a strong interest in sport, and what's great about Ireland is that we have a diverse range with our GAA side having originated here and spreading to other countries across the world.

Unfortunately, costs arise in the training of these sports and the upkeep of our facilities. What 'Grass Roots to Sports Star' which to do is help these clubs, by giving back to Grass Roots.

At Least 1.3 million people actively engage in sports activities in Ireland on a weekly basis, with over 7,000 clubs around the country between GAA-700,000 Soccer 450,000 and Rugby 160,000 players. these clubs develop our future Sports Stars.

This project will help generate income for clubs, and much needed employment in the country. Helping Sport, Helping Business, Helping Employment, Helping Each Other.

  • Goldenplec Music Resource

Goldenplec is one of Ireland longest running resources for music news, reviews, competitions, interviews and more.

It is completely volunteer driven and they work for the benefit of a charity and not themselves. Everyone including site owner and administrator are working "real life" jobs and contributing to the site on a voluntary basis.

Goldenplec is an established name with existing traffic, talented writers and photographers who produce their own unique content on a daily basis. Goldenplec is effectively a platform for writers and photographers to showcase their creative abilities and get noticed by the right people who can hire talented journalists and photographers.

As you can see, the Arthur Guinness Project has so much on offer, and it really is worth having a look at the website and participating either by giving a vote and helping participants, or even by setting up a profile and getting one step closer to your dream.

(For those interested, don't forget that one of the judges is Danny from the Script... If you participate you could be in for a chance of meeting him!)
