The Australian version of the reality television series The World's Strictest Parents visited Ireland and the Coleman family from Co Cork during its first run back in 2009.

The premise of the show is that unruly Aussie teenagers are send abroad to learn some manners and generally calm themselves down a bit. They were in for a bit of a shock when they got to Whitecastle.

Parents John and Mary have a few rules for their own children that some might consider a little extreme, but it definitely seems to work for them. As John says himself, there are no rules, just the ten commandments.

Their five children have to:

  • Use their own pocket money to buy their own clothes
  • Hand in their mobile phones at the end of the day
  • Do the weekly shopping unsupervised
  • Not use bad language or else they will find themselves eating dinner outside with the animals.
