@Ireland a year and 52 curators on

The @Ireland project began a year ago, launched to coincide with St Patrick's Day, and as we start this week with Rick O'Shea, curator number 53, it's important to acknowledge and thank the 52 people who have tweeted for Ireland over the past year.
In early 2012, inspired by the @Sweden project, Bernie Goldbach came to WorldIrish with the idea for @Ireland - a Twitter account curated by a different person either in or from Ireland. The idea: a new person would tweet as Ireland every week giving people a constantly changing view of the country and its people. Bernie gave the @Ireland account to WorldIrish, which became its custodian.
Over the year we've heard from such a broad range of voices from the humorous to the serious. We've had curators from so many parts of Ireland as well as those based abroad from New York, London, Dusseldorf and beyond.
In WorldIrish, we're very proud of this project. @Ireland, like WorldIrish, helps to connect people who are Irish or who have an interest in this country or an element of it.
@Ireland is open to anyone living in Ireland or anyone from Ireland living abroad. If you want to tweet as @Ireland you can apply by email to [email protected] briefly outlining a little about yourself and why you'd like to be a curator. You can find out more about the process of how we select curators here.
Finally, thank you to Una Kavanagh (@Ireland curator number four!) and Dave Molloy who look after the @Ireland project in WorldIrish week-to-week.
Here's to the next 52,
